FINALLY, THERE’S AN AFFORDABLE BLADE TENSION GAUGE FOR BANDSAW. New dual reading dial. This helps our international customers that operate on the metric scale. Tha added scale measures in kilopascal, a unit of pressure that is widely used throughout the world and has largely replaced psi as unit of measurement except in countries that still use the Imperial measurement system like United States. Our tension meter now includes a foam lined protective blow-molded case as standard equipment. The body of the meter has been extended approximately one inch to provide a longer sample of blade length improving the meter’s sensitivity. Our plastic thumbscrews have now been upgraded to solid stainless steel knurled knobs as shown in the photo. Facing our new stainless steel knurled knobs are cone pointed setscrews (see photo) which securely lock the band saw blade in place preventing its movement during tension measurements. This provides very high pressure points without having to use excessive force on the thumbscrews to prevent blade slippage during measurement. We’ve also eliminated the need to pre-load the meter, making it easier to use and more user friendly. Now, all users have to do is simply place the blade into the clamping slots and tighten down on the knurled knobs, then zero the dial needle if needed and apply the correct blade tension. We’ve also added a solid Teflon plate where the tip of the dial gauge contacts the movable lever arm significately reducing friction and increasing the tension meter’s accuracy. It uses a very sensitive dial indicator which reads in the 0.0001 instead of the more familiar 0.001 range. Although lower in price, it uses a precision jeweled movement just like the more expensive model and meets all for accuracy under the Standard Gauge AGD guidlines. The dial indicator is then mated and sealed to a compact housing which is milled from 3/4 thick 6061-T6 aluminum bar stock for protection. Due to the compact size (3 1/2″ wide by 5″ tall) this gauge can be used on smaller bench-top band saws which have at least 5 1/2 of accessible blade length. It can be used to measure tension in blades 1/16″ to 3″ wide. The gauge is able to measure tension in PSI in a range from 0 to 50,000 PSI and 0 to 320,000 in kPa.
