I bought this smoker almost three years ago and it’s still going strong, keeps temps great, couldn’t have asked for a better smoker? Have to do some modifications but overall very happy! Ordered from Walmart app and took 2 weeks to get to my store other than that very happy!!! Vary nice smoker easy to use keeps temp good del on time in good cond. Great bang for the buck! I got this smoker for my birthday about 4 years ago. I typically smoke food with it about once or twice a month and more frequently during football season. This smoker has done it all! I havent used it for grilling per se, just smoking. Ve smoked multiple pork butts, briskets, chicken legs/thighs, beer butt chicken, jalepeno poppers and all turn out great! With that said, this grill isn??? There are some smoke leaks. The fire box could be a little bigger. The fire box has rusted some. But for the leaks, i used a heat regulated felt gasket to go around the smoking chamber lid. That took care of most the leaks. I used a mesh grate box in the fire box, and use primarily charcoal and add a few chunks of wood every so often to achieve good smoke. I also use foil water pans in the main smoking area to keep food moist. With that said, this grill isn?????? Heavy duty built with thick steel should be great for cooking haven’t cooked in it yet but looks like it’ll last at least 20 or 30 years. Very heavy thick metal. I hope to get many years out of it. Would have thought it would have came with a grease bucket but you’ll have to get that separate. I’m so happy with this smoker. It was a little tricky getting it into my car, but thanks to some super sweet guys in the parking lot, and help from 2 awesome Wal-Mart employees, we got it in! My 13 year old son got it out of my car with a transfer lift. He was able to put it together by himself. My kid and I will being doing a few Mods, but nothing major. Heavy duty consumer smoker grill. Has lots of room for plenty of food for around 12 to 14 people. I followed the enclosed directions and did a pre cook burn for about 4 hours to cure the smoker. The next day on my first cook everything was straight forward and the meat turned out great. You can return it for another or if it’s not assembled then a few well placed drops on the side of the drum will straighten it out. My box was basically destroyed when I picked it up at my local Walmart. For the price this is a great smoker. Very well built and sturdy. Great size for the backyard. Only downfall is that the main chamber doesn’t have a removable ash tray. OKLAHOMA JOE HIGHLAND SMOKER. My wife bought this for me 4years ago and it’s still going strong. I use it 3 to 4 times a month. I’m not a pro yet and I’m still trying to understand how to regulate the temperature better. I’m very pleased. This smoker is everything advertised and more. I picked it up yesterday and put it together in about an hour. I did seal the fire box halves and the union of the firebox to the smoke chamber which slowed me down a little bit but it was worth it. I seasoned it according to some other reviews on here, coating the inside and outside with vegetable oil and lit it about 2 hours ago with about 2 lbs of charcoal and a few big chunks of hickory. It has maintained a steady 275 degrees so far and I haven’t added anything to it. I can’t wait to throw on the pork tenderloin and ribs this weekend! I will post more later after the inaugural smoke! First time smoker grill. Plenty of space to cook. Easy enough to put together. As I did it by myself in about 1 hour. Could have used some sealer tape on the smoke stack, the lid and between the fire box. I’m using it right now for the first time after I’ve conditioned it a few days ago and it’s not bad at all. Temps taking some time to get used to but not large swings either way yet. I wished there was a gauge at grate level but that may just be something I have to modify myself. I love the look of the smoker it’s solid and the overall capacity of the smoker was great. I’ve always wanted one after cooking on it the results was fantastic. You know where I’ll be this summer. Great smoker, well built. The steel is heavier gauged to hold heat better. Nice heavy gauge steel… Glad I went with it over competitor grill. Appears to be good quality (haven’t used it yet), and the instructions were easy to follow. Heavy gauge for the price. Holds smoking temps well. Put together myself, but was not easy. It weighs 187 lbs. I have owned many smokers, but this one is the best so far. I would highly recommend this smoker. Only complaint I have is the paint. After my 3rd-4th use the paint started chipping off the bottom, top, and side of the smoke box. The main box has some rust around the latches on the lid. My boyfriend absolutely loves it… And he is very picky about things like this. I decided to season the Highland last Sunday. The whole procedure was followed for the minimum amount of 2 hours listed by the manual. Being my first smoker ever owned; curiosity settled in. Off to grilling I went. The test run was some salmon and a 3 lb. Final result: The food tasted awesome. Have a friend to help you to put the grill together. We are so pleased with the quality and performance of this smoker. It took aprox two hours to assemble but everything was very clear. We have used it twice in two weeks with great success. This is a well designed, quality smoker. I would recommend to anyone. I had no idea this box was going to be 200 lbs when I picked it up. You will need a buddy to help you move the box and assemble the grill. When I opened the box all of my pieces were super sticky from the glue. But overall this grill is the best we found! Im very confident its going to be around for us for a long time! This smoker is very sturdy and has great cooking space! Love the shelf in front. Excellent Smoker at a great price! It’s very easy to put together, works like you would expect. The materials seem excellent quality. It’s 194 pounds so it’s super heavy but I guess a good offset smoker is going to be solid. I notice there is a small gap between the fire thing and the cooking chamber so I will add some gasket tape there too. But, even with the gaps, I smoked some wings and they were great! I also got a separate thermometer for that measures the temp in the cooker and the meat. It’s a little more accurate than the thermometer on the smoker. This smoker is great! Put some sealer on the doors to help with smoke and heat. I’ve been through alot of smokers and grill combos. I would highly recommend this smoker grill. The only downfall is it needs alot of gaskets and a charcoal catch pan for grill and fire box. And a gasket around smoke stack assembly other than that this is a perfect smoker grill. I seasoned the grill and I used one canister of charcoal and put small amounts of wood in it and with all the vents closed I could maintain 200 deg.. From 10:30am to 8pm Then i adjusted vents and could get the smoker up to 400 deg. Just from using the firebox. But i’m keeping my horizontal smoker. My husband, the grill master! This Oklahoma Joe Smoker has made my husband a happy man! It keeps perfect temperature whether he’s cooking deer, chicken, pork, beef, fish or veggies! We are firm believers that you just can’t beat the taste of real wood smoked food! None of that electric junk on our deck! This is definitely an affordable, fantastic smoker! I used to be a butcher in a meat market for years and loved good smoked meat. I’m also from Texas so I’m particular about the quality of my smoked meats and barbecue. I got it a couple of months ago from my local WalMart. The quality is good. Assembly was not too bad, no real issues and needed no help to get it together. I seasoned it with bacon grease, like I have all metal I season and it came out very well, no issues with the paint the first week but then I let the fire get a bit too hot and coals fell through the grate in the firebox and I did have a bit of paint loss (nothing I can’t fix) but that was me, not the product. The rest has gone without a hitch (so far lol). The meat I’ve smoked has come out very well. I’m still learning to smoke with an offset smoker, had/have an upright with water pan for two plus decades so having to relearn some things. I recommend sealing it better than the stock configuration to seal in the temp and smoke and force the flow of both through the smoker better. Mainly around the doors helps. Not too hard, just took a board and hammer to straighten out and align the doors to the base a bit then seal the remaining gaps with a bit of fire resistant silicon. Apply thin wide coat to the base seam and a bit of fire resistant tape then close and press the door/lid while it is still malleable to form a good fit. And can’t wait to smoke some homemade Keilbasa. Smoke it with some pecan and mesquite woods…………. You can’t go wrong with this smoker if you just apply yourself. One of the best smokers in its price range! So I’m going to preface this by saying that yes, there are many smokers better than this on the market, and there are a lot worse. The better smokers will cost twice this price and the bad ones have ultra thin metal and will not regulate temps properly. With any except professional or high-end smokers, always make sure you assemble the smoker yourself. Now this is for mainly offset box smokers. Bent parts will create problems if they don’t seal properly. Second, you will need to use high-heat silicone I recommend minimum 650 degree temp tolerance silicone but you should be fine with 550, as it’s a smoker it should NEVER get that hot anyway. You will need to put the silicone sealant between the offset fire box and the main body. I also use high-heat sealant tape on the outside where the offset box joins the main body as well in case the sealant doesn’t do the job adequately. As long as you apply it properly you shouldn’t need the tape. Some people just use sealant tape, but in my opinion that alone doesn’t seal well enough. Third, use a smoker gasket for the smoker lid and firebox lid. You can find good self-stick gasket seals from companies that specialize in smoker accessories. Lavalock is my preferred company for smoker gaskets. Apply everywhere the lids join to the smoker or firebox. You want as much air blocked from escaping the firebox and smoke chamber as possible. Finally, it’s my recommendation that you get the best temperature gauge you can find and replace the unit it comes with. Also use the silicone sealant around the opening you insert the temp gage at on the smoker. There is an easy way to test if the temp gage is accurate. You can google directions but all you have to do is boil some water and put the temp gage probe in the water, depending on the elevation you are at, the gage should read a specific temperature. If it’s way off then the gage is junk. And this works for ANY temperature gage. If you want to test your so called quick read meat thermometer this is the most accurate test. And I bet you find wireless gauges are not very accurate if you use them. Now this smoker, with the correct assembly, will last a long time and work much better! For the price I doubt you will find a better offset smoker than this one. Most cheaper units or many that are in the same price range have thinner steel and do not hold heat very well at all. Also make sure you season your smoker well before use. As others have posted, you can use lard to coat the inner drum of the smoker and firebox. Just do it before you start to season it. Oklahoma Joe’s highland smoker. This spring will be great. Thanks to Oklahoma Joe’s Highlander. For the price this is a great smoker!! Nice heavier sheet metal than less expensive ones. The build quality was good – the parts fit well. I bought one previously which was not well made – the lid does not close tightly on that one. The only issue with this one was that the end of the cooking chamber was dented where it attaches to the firebox. I used hi temp sealant in the gap. Hopefully it won’t leak much. Looks nice smokes nice. Very Large, exactly like picture exactly what we wanted. The Oklahoma Joes nameplate was broken off of the smoker. What can I do to get a new one? Other than the broken nameplate I highly recommended this grill. Excellent product for an amazing price. I was really shocked when I got this smoker built. Almost 3x heavier construction then my old char broil 1280 which mind you leaked like no tomorrow. Great smoker but you need to do some mod’s to make it great! Best grill/smoker I’ve owned. Was recommended by friend who smokes for profit. Holds heat well, great vent control makes it easy to control fire. Thick steel and welded contruction. My husband had been wanting a new smoker and spent weeks researching online. He landed on this one and couldn’t be happier. Great product and a great price. You can not beat the quality for the price. Better quality than other smokers we’ve seen. The firebox is made very well. Great tasting meat, Looking forward to using it for many years. Oklahoma joe highlander smoker. Although I have not used it yet as I fell and fractured my hip the day before I received the good looking thing, I had friends unbox it and have been slowly been putting it together. After checking you tube and other sources, I have found that there is much more I need to make efficient, such as seals around the doors and between the fire box and the smoker. Also an additional thermometer should be installed. Then there is A part called A baffle plate that distributes the hot air more evenly under what ever you are cooking. Hope my hip is healed by then! Best Smoker for the Price! Are used to own one of the smokers and I gave it to the guy who bought my house in the hill country. I’ve missed it ever since. So, I finally replaced it and I’m really glad I did. This is a great smoker especially for the price! Ordered on line and picked up at the door. Great Smoker, Avoid the Negative Reviews! I spent a lot of time researching my next smoker. I had an older cheap fire box model and wanted another one but this time with more space and heavier grade steel. I was pretty settled on this one but my local Walmart did not have this one built for display. After seeing the box there and coming home to do more review checking I saw this grill had Almost perfect online reviews, almost a cult like following online, many videos of people doing mods and enjoying their smoker. I took the negative reviews about paint falling off, does not hold steady temp etc. And put them aside and took a chance. I love my new smoker. Here is what you will want to do to make it perfect. Get 3/4 expanded steel and make a small charcoal/wood box to hold your fire in the fire box. I can see if people went home, didn’t put a grate in the fire box and lit a big fire they probably would peel the paint, read the instructions and season your new smoker properly and it will be everything you want for this price point. I ordered two gauges (I broke the factory one installing, it was my fault) and an electronic DUAL PROBE thermometer. I run a perfect 275 deg on first gauge, 245 on far gauge and 225 on my grate probe. This grill does everything it is supposed to so take the negative reviews as user error. Also I read about bad packing? Unless a forklift hit the box I don’t see how it could show up damaged. Our top priority is customer service.
